One of my passions is telling my story to others in the hope they can learn something and use it as a source of inspiration. I really enjoy speaking to people from all walks of life, listening to their journeys and how they ended up in their current situation so that I can learn. Listening is an important communication skill and I don't think we do it enough!

Kings College London Medical School Careers Fair

Currently I am training to become a General Practitioner (GP). I chose to return to medicine and train to become a GP for a number of reasons. One of which is because of the vast opportunities available as a GP. In medicine GP is a specialty (yes it's a specialty!) that is often looked down upon, a specialty (YES, it's a specialty!) that should not be considered because there are so many other specialties (YES, IT IS A SPECIALTY!) that are so much better to pursue. I therefore feel it is imperative for those training to become GPs and those who are GPs to speak out about why it should be considered. Despite the on-going political issues I still believe medicine is a worthwhile career to choose. Therefore, I aim to be speaking (and writing) about GP much more in order for students considering medicine as a career and medical students to choose GP. My first talk about GP was delivered to a number of medical students at Kings College London. I spoke about my background and my career path to date. I explained why I considered leaving medicine and why I chose to return and commence GP training. I really enjoyed speaking to them and hope they enjoyed my talk too! I also exhibited at the careers fair with my company DreamSmartTutors and spoke to students in more detail about the work we do.

Queen Mary University London and Young Ladies Club

I was honoured when I was asked to speak at the Women's Empowerment Seminar hosted by Young Ladies Club at Queen Mary University London. I really enjoyed speaking to the university students about my career. I was asked several questions at the end which were thought provoking and allowed a deeper insight into my experiences for the attendees. I am looking forward to working with Young Ladies Club in the future as I believe we need more events such as these to inspire and empower young people and in particular young women.
